So many of you were very supportive when Rebecca told you about our cancelled trip and my husband's surprise need for heart surgery that I felt I should tell you how it all turned out. The surgery was a huge success and my husband is doing really well.

Now, instead of the south of France for January, we're spending 3 weeks in Morristown, New Jersey. Great hospital, and a shopper's delight compared to our little home town in North Carolina, but a bit cooler than the Med: 3 below zero tonight!

So far I've discovered a fantastic Italian restaurant here -- any other Jersey tips while recuperation takes place?

Thanks again to those of you who wrote to me, sending prayers and friendship.

Libbie

Wow, somehow I missed this only to get the good news, and good news it really is, too, worth any number of delayed trips to anywhere. Big hugs, Libbie.

Great news that your husband is doing well.

No matter what, good health is far more important than any vacation you might have missed. Smile

And a good Italian restaurant in Jersey? Yous can't be serious. Wink

That is truly great news and a terrific way to begin the New Year!

We have eaten well at the places below in Madison, which is a very short drive (east) from Morristown.
Rocco's Restaurant (Very good pizza)
30 Cook Plaza
Madison, New Jersey

Lallegria
11 Prospect Street
Madison, New Jersey

Il Mondo Vecchio
72 Main Street
Madison, New Jersey

The Bernards Inn is also close to Morristown. It is about a 20 minute drive south. The restaurant there is excellent but a bit expensive. Here is the website: www.bernardsinn.com

If you haven't discovered that the Short Hills Mall is only 15 minutes from Morristown, you will surely enjoy shopping at the upscale mall. Or, you could just spend the time there window shopping and walking about. Also keep in mind that Morristown is in commuting distance to NYC by train.

Great news about your husband, Libbie.

As for restaurants -- also great Italian etc in my little corner of NJ, within a half-hour of Morristown.

Faschino -- Bloomfield Ave, Montclair
Taro -- Church St, Montclair Asian (nice "charming" window shopping on this street, if the weather allows)
Thai Chef -- Bloomfield Ave, Montclair

Also a decent art museum within a few blocks of these restaurants. Star

Send me a private message if you feel like a little GTG.

Libbie, I have been thinking about you the past few days and wondering how George's surgery went. I'm so glad to hear it was a success and that you're taking advantage of your time in New Jersey. Keep in touch! Kathy

Having gona a year and a half after my own heart surgery, I can tell you that the road from here will have its ups and downs, but with love and support like I had, the outcome will exceede your hopes.

Great news about your husband.

If you like Mexican food, when I worked near Morristown we liked to go to Casa Maya in Meyersville (about 10 miles south).

That's great! How long is the recovery process after he leaves the hospital? And then, how long till you can resume your travelling?

Excellent news Libbie! Any idea when you'll be there too? I unfortunately have to go to Morristown to try on a bridesmaid dress for my friend's wedding (trying on the dress is the unfortunate part - not the wedding Big Grin). I'll let you know when I hear, perhaps we can schedule gtg. BTW for a real splurge, dining in the restaurant at the Short Hills Hilton is fantastic - I may actually take Chris there next weekend for his birthday - rumor has it they have a truffle tasting menu.

I second Kim on the Dining Room at the Hilton. It's great! The Terrace Room isn't bad either. And they have an unbelievable Sunday brunch.

Libbie -- You may not be up for a GTG. But if you are, let's do it.

Cheers/M

Very happy for both of you. Olive oil and red wine should keep you fit and healthy. Hope you're looking forward to next year's Italy trip.

Thanks for all the messages. Good news is that George is doing so well, we get to go home this Friday, instead of a week later. I'm afraid that doesn't leave time for a GTG for me, though.

I do want to tell you about the restaurant we discovered, called La Compagna, on Elm Street at the corner of South St. in Morristown. It's just like being in Italy. Really good!

It snowed here today and was beautiful. I do enjoy being back up north.

So glad to hear the good news about your husband. Hope you will have many more wonderful vacations together. (With better weather than Morristown offered!)
