Any other Slow Food members here? Even if you're not, you can participate in and enjoy Slow Food events while you're in Italy. Go to http://www.slowfood.com/eng/sf_eventi/sf_eventi_condotte.lasso and select the region you'll be visiting to get a list of what's going on.
Unless you're a REALLY slow traveller, you probably won't be in one place long enough to take advantage of any of the wonderful courses, but there are one-off dinners and tastings which are great fun. We went to a dinner and tasting of Valtellina wines Wednesday night that was also a bargain: 35 euros a head for an exquisite dinner and more than 12 different wines (we drove home verrrrry slowly).
Does anyone have the "correct info" on the dates for the Salone del Gusto in Torino this October? One page of the Slow Food site says it will be October 21-25. But, if you click on the Salone, it gives another date of October 24-28.
I know, I know - It's Italy ! We emailed both the Italian and USA offices. The USA only knows that it is October, Italy has not replied.
If you happen to know which of the dates are correct, please let us know.
Bill and Patty - friends from Santa Fe are attending and they have been told October 21-25.
Perhaps you are looking at an old site - October 24-28 were the dates in 2002.

On the site, I went to events and found the Oct 21-25 dates for the Salone, then clicked on the icon. This took me to a two year old article with the later dates.
Feeling stupid, but thanks for the simple insight. Maybe I can blame it on the wine.
The Salone del Gusto is one of the great food / wine events in the entire world if anyone is in Ialy during October "21-25", 2004. We have attended in the past and could not reccommend it more. 500+ producers of the best of Italy's - and other parts of the world's - food and wine + great instructional classes and wonderful dinners to choose from. The primary language for the event is English.
So, we will definitely be there during the "21st - 25th". Thanks again.
