Between May 12 and September 28, 2003, there were 29 concerts in this series. In this series, Sunday at 11 is a very popular time for concerts at the Museo di San Marco (in the room with a Last Supper by Ghirlandaio). In this series, there were 6 concerts in May (May 12-31), 9 in June (June 2-29), 5 in July (July 5-27), 2 in August (Aug. 10 and 24) and 7 in September (Sept. 11-28). I expect the distribution will be similar this year. Besides seeing the beautiful frescoes by Fra Angelico in the Museo di San Marco, I love the peacefulness of the cloisters there. Admission is only 4 euros to this museum. I had read about this series in 2001 but this past September is the first time we attended them. We will be there for the last two weeks in May and plan to attend a few during that time. The performers are very fine advanced students from the Conservatorio di musica Luigi Cherubini.

The Conservatorio di Musica Luigi Cherubini has its own website ( http://www.bdp.it/conservatorio-firenze/bando.htm) but there is nothing on that site yet about this series. However, there is a phone number and a fax number there: Conservatorio Statale di Musica "Luigi Cherubini" P.zza delle Belle Arti, 2 50122 Firenze ITALIA Tel.: +39 055 210502 / 055 292180 Fax : +39 055 2396785 I'll keep checking and if I find a listing, I'll post that information here.

When I was in Florence last May (if I'm in Florence, it must be May ) I went to a lovely student concert that was in a church, not a museum. Don't remember exactly which one, but it's a Protestant church on the Via dei Benci. Maggio Fiorentino is, of course, also on at that time, as are concerts by the Orchestra Toscana. I've put together a list of performances that I might want to attend (including some ballet). I will be happy to send it privately to anyone who wishes to see it. I shall probably get tickets for Idomeneo, for the Tokyo ballet, and for another concert in advance. Then once I'm there I'll look for signs for el cheapo concerts in churches, which are always fun.
