just wondering if the number we've been using will be ours indefinitely, or as long as we keep purchasing minutes, even during those times when we're in other parts of the globe for months at a time.

The SIM card, which has your cell number, expires if money is not added to it after a specific number of months. It used to be 13 months, but this might have changed. You can probably phone them and ask.

ok, as long as we still have money/minutes available, we should be alright. Hubby just purchased a new tri-band cell--he's excited! I guess any cell phone with 800 mhz or 1800mhz will work, right?

thanx Pauline!

Not really, you have to buy more time whether you have some left or not before the end of 13 or so months. AS long as you use it a lot while you are here and refill it and don't let 13 months go by you will be fine.
