Hi,
I wanted to go to the opera and a spa while staying in florence, but I am having trouble finding websites or phone numbers to book these things. So far I was able to find www.maggiofiorentino.it, but nothing else. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help. Thanks. Smile

Twizzy,

It depends when you'll be in Florence. The Verdi Theater also presents opera, apart from the events of the Maggio Musicale series.

In the summer, there is a lovely performing arts series in Fiesole at the Roman amphitheater. The series is called Estate Fiesolana and includes opera.

Further afield, there is opera in the summer in Barga and a Puccini festival at Torre del Lago.

If you will be there during July and/or August, the following link will provide information on the Puccini Festival 2005 in nearby Torre del Lago.

not in Florence but not too far there's this special event this summer:

Four historical homes of Tuscia will host a music event on July 9, 10, 15 and 16 2005. The musical performance will present excerpts from both versions of the "Barbiere di Siviglia" as composed by Rossini and Paisiello. There will also be a buffet reception served with Mottura wines.
"Convivio in Musica":
July 9 in La Foce, Val d'Orcia, home of Marchesa Origo
July 10 in Castello di Proceno
July 15 in Bolsena, at the home of Principe del Drago
July 16 in Civitella d'Agliano, at the home of the Mottura family

Twizzy,

You may have already read recommendations for Fiesole. Even without the Estate Fiesolana, it is a lovely place to visit and so simple on public transportation. The #7 city bus goes to the center of Fiesole, and the Roman amphitheater is a short walk (less than 1/4 mile) away. The ride to and from Fiesole is stunning, too.

When we go to Fiesole, we catch the bus at the train station, although you can get it at the San Marco piazza or next to the Duomo. The advantage of getting the bus at the train station is that you can be sure of getting a seat. It's a popular route, the bus can be quite crowded, and the trip takes about 25 minutes.
