Looking for rooms. Know anything about it? It is not clear to me from what I saw on their site whether it is part of the abbey? Would it be like renting in a convent? Is it separate?
Hi Dorit, excuse my question, didn't you say on an earlier post that coming in november you want to be in a more alive place? Because of all the places you have talked about, Montalcino, Pienza etc, this will be the deadest, I am not saying the ugliest or the nastiest, I actually think that this would be a terrific place in a more populated part of the year, but in November?
I would stay in a more populated area of Tuscany, and actually there are a lot of things to do in southern tuscany ...
Cortona is fantastic in that part of the year, and il Melone relais is really good, but also there are a lot of B & B that are cheap and right in or close to the town, like Le Gelosie, or Il sole del Sodo or Il Girasole, I would check that and save the one in sant' ANtimo for more populated times of the year
Thank you very much for your input. This is just what I am looking for, i.e. those who live in the area and can give me insights such as yours. I have never been to Cortona and will definitely think about it and start gathering some info about it.
You have a very good point about a place like this in November. Hmmmmmm......
However, we are interested in nature, country walks, small town walks as well, picnics if the weather is good, etc. We don't want to be particularly in a large town (is Cortona much larger than Montalcino, Pienza, and such?)
Cortona is such a beautiful and interesting town, with hilly hikes, enchanting countryside. And Alessandra would be a great friend for you to to hang out with. If you'd like a highly personalized cooking class, hers is surely No. 1 in all of Italy!
If you are interested in renting a flat right in the old town, let me know and I'll send you info about a extremely reasonablly priced "townhouse" we rented there last month . .Casa dell'Artiste. It is in a restored ancient building, has a fabulous modern kitchen and bathroom (even a washer-dryer), a terrace with incredible view and a wood-burning fireplace for chilly days.

And while you are doing all that, why not put the information into a review, PLEASE, so that others searching for a place to stay can see it.

Alessandra, you are making it sound very attractive and I am definitely considering a stay in Cortona. May I ask how long you have lived there? And if there is anything that the city is famed and well-known for?
After staying in Cortona it became our favorite town in Tuscany. It's a lively town with many good restaurants and close to the Umbria border. You won't be disappointed.

And your stay in Cortona will be especially memorable if you meet Alessandra (lifelong Cortona resident) and possibly experience her amazing cooking class!
(no I am not Alessandra's "agent" . .but my friend Julia and I rank our day at Alessandra's house on June 7 as No. 1 on a list of fabulous adventures on our recent two-week trip to Rome, Cortona and Siena.)

Betsy, thanks for the offer but we are not looking for an apartment, rather an inexpensive B&B.
Alessandra, I have written to two of the places you suggested and await their reply. Meantime, I also found another place called Casa Kita, to which I also wrote and await a reply. Do you know them as well?
If we do end up in Cortona,(or even if we just make it a day trip for visiting), I would love to meet you and see you beautiful store.

Dorit that is a beautiful place! I have never seen it before, but e-mail me their name so I can see who they are. The place surely looks fabulous! And unexpensive!
I actually see this place (from the outside) everytime I park at the elevator park, I don't know who's the owner but the position is really good! And from the website it is a really cool place.
They came back to my from Casa Kita with an unbelievable price of 60 Euros per night for a double. No breakfast included but they did write "you may have tea in the room". Even so I think it is a great price (this is what I call "INEXPENSIVE"!!!). I am seriously considering this offer. And your comments about its position and Cortona in gener
