I plan on travelling to the Cilento in Late Sep/Oct 05 and would welcome recomendations/suggestions regarding accomodations - Seaside or close proximity - either hotel or Agritourismo. Thanks/Regards, Joe
While I have never stayed at the Agriturismo Seliano, several very reliable sources have had only very positive things to say about it. It is a true working farm mainly the raising of water buffalo from which their milk is made into mozzarella on the farm. Here is its website: www.agriturismoseliano.it
It is certainly worth a good look.

I stayed in Pisciotta, a medieval town in the Cilento in October 2002 and found it a lovely area, combining untouristy village life with walks over the gorges away from the sea or down through the olive groves to the small seaside resort of Pisciotta Marina. There were plenty of small interesting towns to visit, and enough restaurants to tempt me even though I loved eating at my apartment at Casa Pixos. I have made a few comments on that here, but since I see you are looking for a hotel or agriturismo, I will mention two in the area.
The one most tempting to me, and where I hope someday to spend a week, is the Agriturismo San Carlo. Its rooms are directly on the ocean, its buildings handsome, and the third time I went past it I just had to stop and check it out. It is a small, family-run agriturismo not actually in a town, which produces olive oil, honey and I think maybe also a small amount of wine. The woman I spoke with was very congenial and the prices, including lunch and/or dinner (if wanted) in the communal dining room, were extremely reasonable. I had the feeling the meals would be good.
The other place is higher up in the mountains, a very airy place, also family run, quite near the town of Pisciotta, where I ate lunch several times. The family was friendly (and anxious to interest me in their also reasonably priced accommodations) and the food good. They do not seem to have a website, but I noted in my address book "Just outside of Pisciotta, restaurant on ledge, makes own olive oil, has a few rooms and an apt or two... TRATTORIA BELVEDERE DI GRECO GIOVANNA, VIA SALERNO 24 - 84066 Tel. 0974 973487" I posted a picture of some of their olives suspended in a net at one end of their dining terrace here. There are also a few pictures of Pisciotta and vicinity if you click the Next and Previous photo buttons.
