Well, the time has come - we are off to Italy this afternoon! Air NZ from LAX to London Heathrow, then on to Zurich where we'll meet up with my mother-in-law and some of her friends. The only thing I am stressing about is having to connect through Heathrow with all the chaos there and the stupid UK "one bag only" rule for carry-ons. But I've been practicing and I think I can get all the stuff from my "personal item" into my carry-on bag once we're at Heathrow.
We pick up our rental cars in Zurich, then drive to Lucerne for a much needed sleep by that time!
Friday, we drive down to Monterosso in the Cinque Terre for one night (I know, it's crazy but that's what my mother-in-law wants to do and this trip is kind of her thing). I figure we'll be able to have dinner there and not too much else....
Saturday, we head down to our rental house near Sinalunga for a week. We LOVE this house (we stayed there 3 years ago). It is called "Infinito" because it sits high on a hill with views of Cortona to the east and Montepulciano to the south and Trequanda to the southwest. The house sleeps 16 people very comfortably and it has a pool. We'll have 13 people there with us this time.
I tried to put a link to the house here but I cannot figure out how to make it work? Anyway, you can find Infinito through Eurocasa's website:
www.eurocasa.com. It is in Siena Province.
My husband and I are heading up to Camogli (north of the CT) on the 12th. That weeked we'll be there to help celebrate their Saint's Day festa and the "world's biggest fish fry" on Sunday. Then off to Piemonte with 2 days at a B&B - La Traversina - south of Alessandria and 3 days at Villa Sampaguita.
Last 2 days will be in Milano to visit with my relatives who live nearby.
Finally, back to Zurich to return home on the 22nd.
Thanks to all here who have provided me with much information, advice and inspiration over the past 7 months that we've planned this trip. I don't post very often at all but I do read the posts almost every day. So I just want to thank all of you who DO post regularly.
I promise I will try and prepare a trip report shortly after I return in 3 weeks.
Ciao tutti!
