We returned home from our 5 day/6 night stay in Liguria on Saturday and I'm still coming down from the high. I simply adored that area of Italy and hope to return one day.

The great: seafood, the views, the hiking, the people, the atmosphere, the calm

The only bad: bringing my "ugly American" mother in law on the trip

I refuse to dwell on what went on with my MIL, but I'm happy to report that my husband and 3 children enjoyed the area and our vacation as much as I did.

I only came to slowtrav.com weeks before we took off for this adventure, but I wanted to thank the ST'ers who gave me some tips and advice.

Even though our trip was a bit short compared to many of the trips the ST'ers take, we definitely embraced the idea of Slow Travel. We spent the entire week in a vacation rental in Deiva Marina, which turned out to be an excellent spot for our family. I loved the location, the apartment and the people of Deiva. Deiva was just 4 train stops and 15 minutes away fro Monterrosso in the 5T and hopping the local train to 5T was a breeze. We had a wonderful beach in Deiva and we discovered an excellent restaurant with friendly service and great food. Again, our apartment was fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!

Our family returns to Italy in August for a one week stay in Tuscany so I'll be combing this site for great tips and ideas.

Thank you all!

The weather was truly perfect. It was warm and sunny, yet we could find many shady spots with a cool seabreaze everywhere we went.

Prior to this trip, I had only been to Rome and Venice (December, 1998 - Fast Travel style) and while I loved both of those cities, I have found a new area of Italy to love.

Please write a review of your apartment! We want to stay there next trip and would love to hear all about where you stayed!
Sorry about your MIL..I can relate..we had some "issues" with my son in law on this last trip. Ug..it just leaves a ugly cloud over everthing! Not on Italy though, we are still going to try and keep to our "twice a year" plan!
