JMaris, What a great trip report. Positano is one of our favorite locations on Earth, but we have never tried any of the day boat trips. We will certainly try Gennaro and Salvatore on our next trip.

So glad you had such a wonderful time in Rome and Positano.

Just a quick note for others. In the photo is Intero (whole i.e. non skimmed) and Parzialmente Scremato (semi-skimmed). The latter presumably from Crema (cream) -> Cremato (creamed) -> Scremato (not-creamed or de-creamed).

It's good to get such thorough travel diaries posted, which I'm sure brings back memeories for many who have been there (or inspires others to go).

... and diving off a boat on a baking hot day is wonderfully refreshing!

regards

Ian

ok-Ian-so doesthatmean thatthe Parzialmente was partially skimmed milk? That is what we bought.

Yes indeed, though as there are so many variations on partially/semi skimmed that one never quite knows exactly how skimmed it will be!
thanks again for the trip report Cool

JMarie,
What a great first trip to Italy! I admired your pace and your openess to go with the flow each day that allowed you to find your great boat tours (sometimes nagging one's husband is rewarding Wink). Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us.

Oh no! I just reread my trip report and there is a mistake in it. Re Positano restaurants. The rumor is that the further down the hill (mountain) that you go, the MORE EXPENSIVE the restaurants are. Ie - Chez Black on the beach is a place for movie star watching, etc. and is, in my opinion very overpriced. Check out the restaurants high up - some of them, like La Tenaglia and Il Scirocco, will send a van to pick you up for no charge (and no tip!).
The small cafes that were along the road outside of our hotel were very reasonable and had incredible views.
I wonder if it is possible to fix this in the trip report?????

Thanks for letting us know of the correction - I must admit that it didn't sound right, but I didn't think to say anything.

Most folks have their favorite place or places in Italy and you won't go wrong regardless of where you chose to visit.

One of my favorite places is Ferrara; from there you can day-trip by train and car to Venice, Bologna, Ravenna, Padua, Mantova and some other places. You could just as easily base in Bologna. Jim

Loved the trip report!!

Do you remember the approximate cost of the Amalfi Coast boat trip and dinner that you took? I didn't see a rate on the website you gave us.

Thanks!

JMarie,
What a wonderful trip you had and thanks for the great report!
The Palatine Hill is one of my favorite places in Rome too.

And Positano? We have never been there but you have described it so well that I am already trying to figure out how to fit it in on a future trip to Italy.

Hi Jean! We took three boat trips with Gennaro and Salvatore. My husband booked the trips, so I am going to ask him for specifics when he gets home later today. I think that the Capri trip was about 40 euro, the sunset cruise was about 20 euro, and the amalfi coast was about 40 euro and an additional 30 euro for the lunch (optional). This is per person. It included all described on the website -

I just read this wonderful trip report. Do you recall the name of the restaurant on Capri? We are going to book with Gennaro and Salvatore based on your report. Thank-you

Hello Rebecca!
You will have a wonderful time with Gennaro and Salvatore. We did not eat at a special restaurant at Capri - we were dropped off for a few hours, part of the Capri trip. We went to Anacapri and took the ski lift to the top of the mountain. We had a glass of wine at the top.

We ate the special lunch on the Amalfi Coast trip - it was all arranged by Salvatore and Gennaro. If you sign up for that trip they will bring you to the restaurant - It was the best part of my trip to Italy. Tell them the Palladino's send their regards.
JMarie

One thing that I would add to the Positano experience is a mountain hike with Maurizio De Rosa info@onthegodspath.com/. Stunning vistas and a visit to Maurizio's family vineyard. Our Amalfi cruise with Gennaro and Sal was a close second.
