There is something weird going on with air fares in July....I was just checking for friends and Orbitz is showing sub-$400 fares from DC to Milan non-stop. I don't know if it a glitch or how widespread it is, but if anyone is looking, I would check right now.

It is a Delta sale and not just for July travel. I helped a friend book her trip in mid May, traveling Atlanta to Milan.

WOW! Thanks Jim. I just booked 2 round trip non-stop Delta tickets for September (NYC – Rome…Venice – NYC)…less than $500 a ticket!

>>Thanks Jim<< We all have to look out for each other. Marian tipped me off to the earlier sale that got me $550 RT to Palermo in May.

I wish I could make my plans for October now...seats are available for $384 RT from DC to Milan non-stop.

Jim-

Thank you for this! I can't believe my friend bought a $765 ticket on those same flights for May!!! I am using a FF ticket. Those are incredible prices for July. She booked on Alitalia (Delta's partner) and don't think there is any recourse now.

As they say on Best Fares, if you snooze, you lose.

The Delta bargain fares appear to be gone and anyone who didn't move fast enough with their credit cards are out of luck.

One friend was buying four tickets this summer at less than $400 per person....but she had to check with her husband first. By the time I got her credit card number to the agent, the fare had jumped to over $1,300.00.

A pity....

Darn!

I just got home from work and was too late! I'm using a ff ticket for myself in July and one for my boyfriend to come spend a 10 days with me - so lots of points. I was going to trade them in for that price and save my miles for other trips.

Gosh, I wonder why they do that for such a short time?

Oh well, I will have to be quicker next time.

Yesterday on Best Fares I booked a $340.00 ticket from Boston to Frankfort for May. (This was all taxes fees included)
I have to go to a meeting in Germany at the end of my trip to Italy anyway. So flying into Frankfort and immeditately taking a train or a discount European airline to Italy made sense to me. It was $400 cheaper than the best open jaw I could find.
As an added bonus, it is a KLM flight so I can upgrade with my NWA miles.

The consolidator that I use opined that the sale was one of those "mistakes" that pop up every now and again. Perhaps Delta meant to have a sale that ended on March 31 but it went into the system for the whole year.

Who knows...it was good for those who could move fast and a lesson to those who hesitated.

Gosh, Jim - RR - why didn't someone call me and tell me about the sale! I can't check the airfares every hour of the day Wink LOL

Anyway, I called Delta and the rep told me that every once in a while they put on a special internet fare for three or four hours???? Anyway, she double checked to see the best fare she could get me for my DC to Milan (that I have a ff ticket for) and its back up to over $1300.

I've got to pay better attention!
