This year is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Cesare Pavese, one of the great modern Italian writers.
There are many events taking place in Piedmont in his honour (he was born in the town of Cuneo and spent his summer holidays as a boy in the langhe), so if you are inclined to join in the celebrations and don't mind the Italian language, do ask at the local tourist information office to know what goes on.
For example, on the 11th of September at 9:30pm on the courtyard opposite the church in Ozzano Monferrato there is a thetre representation based on the book "Of mice and men" by John Steinbeck, with live musics.
