Robert, you might want to check out OAG. Years ago they published a book with all the flights listed that my father used to keep in his briefcase to navigate flights home in a pinch.

I'll add DC to the above list- we are flying out of Dulles in several weeks directly to Rome.

I'm still waiting for a non-stop from LAX to Rome. Didn't TWA have that route?

We've connected through Chicago and London and both involved a lot of walking to reach the transfer -- and pushed the total travel time over 14 hours.

I KNOW there are no direct flights from Honolulu to Rome (I think the airplane falls out of the sky after ~20 hours!), but...

Didn't there used to be a polar route from the West Coast that was shorter than having to stop on the East Coast? On SAS, maybe?

And how 'bout them airfares Red Face
We're going next summer (June or July, 2006) and you can't book more than 330 days in advance so I've just been checking the fares for this summer to get an idea. Holy cow! I've got time to work this, so any advice on methodology would be appreciated. (There was a reference to a technical analysis in last month's thread on Apartment or Airfare-What do you book First?

I would be very interested in learning more about the Dulles/Rome non-stop. In my experience, the only non-stop to Italy from the Washington DC area goes to Milan.

ZiaMartina:

I, too, am waiting for that non-stop LAX to Rome Flight. Mind you, I'll take LAX to anywhere in Central Italy if it means it's a non-stop flight!

I usually go to London and then on into Rome, Florence or Bologna. I've had to change planes at JFK too. Not fun .... no siree.

The airline that comes up with that flight path will be the one I rack up all my miles with. Heck, I'll buy stock!

Last week we noticed a Rome to Fort Lauderdale flight - thought that was unusual; would have assumed Miami if anywhere in Florida.

Jim, I know it's crazy; isn't it? But we were waiting in the first class lounge and checking out other departing flights and there was one listed to Fort Lauderdale. I can't remember which airline though. When Chris gets home I'll ask him if he remembers.

He doesn't remember either. And when I look all I can find is a flight on US Air which is direct but does have a stop in Philly. It's flight 3.

>>Ft. Lauderdale<<

I am very dubious that there is a non-stop from Ft. Lauderdale. The direct flight with a stop in Philadelphia sounds like the likely explanation.

I believe the Chicago and Cincinnati nonstops are seasonal only, from May through October. Roll Eyes

I got and posted word last summer that Alitalia was planning to start LAX-Milan service this summer, at the same time that they started Boston-Rome service. From what I see now, they've started the Boston service but I see no signs of the LAX.

Oops,Jim-
You are right; we do have to connect in Milan for going on to Rome. We booked it so long ago it must have been wishful thinking on my part- last time we flew US Air direct from Philadelphia.
That brings up a question: will we go through Immigration in Milan or in Rome?
Thanks,
Joana
