Valerie - So sorry to hear of your uncle's death, so soon after your grandmother. But thanks for a wonderfully written piece. I, too, was brought up with a nonna whose winter mantra was "where are your shabatini?", and where going out with wet hair was sure to lead to severe illness. Thanks for reminding me of my history as you shared yours.

TourMama, Thanks for your condolensces. It was a very emotional summer.
Glad the article took you down memory lane, though. My grandma didn't even want us going out with wet hair in July. Never figured out how getting wet from swimming wasn't cause for alarm, but going outside after showering would. Hmmm.
Your writing is, as always, beautiful! You paint pictures with your words and you evoked similar memories in me of similar times of concern and pain for far away loved ones.
I also say "good riddance" to this summer due to yet another fall which kept me "down" during the hot months.
THANKS, Valerie, for your excellent "articles". I can't tell you how I enjoy them and look forward to them. My heartfelt sympathies for the loss of your dear uncle!
