Okay, after weighing apartments vs. hotels, we have decided on a hotel. We have always stayed at Pensione Accademia in the past, but we need a triple for our trip next May and they want €300 a night. Do the math and that is now just too much with the dollar where it is for four nights.

I am trying to decide between Corte 1321 and Al Palazzetto, which has the better price and a water door. I simply don't know the area where the Palazzetto is located. We have only stayed in the Dorsoduro area, which we love and it makes us a bit nervous staying in a different part of the city, (Cannaregio). On the other hand, exploring out of our comfort zone does intrigue us.

I would appreciate any help you can give me in trying to make this decision. I think I heard someone mention at one time, that Corte requires payment in cash on checkout as well...true?

I don't know anything about the two places you have listed...but I do know Cannaregio and love it...there are lots of restaurants and lots of streets to walk around...often it tends to be less crowded then other areas of Venice...the Ghetto is in the area(to give you a marker) and I don't know what a water door is..do you mean an entrance on the water?...hope this is helpful

A friend and I stayed at Corte 1321 for two nights last year, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The B&B is in a quiet, yet easy to access location in San Polo, and has the most peaceful little courtyard ... We had breakfast there in the mornings, and planned our days over coffee and fresh juice.

I don't know Al Palazzetto, but its location is good, too. Shannon and I rented an apartment near there in 2006 - next door to the church of SS Apostoli. It's a central location, and pretty easy to get to just about anywhere on foot, traghetto, or vaporetto. The Strada Nuova was busy during the day, but quiet in the mornings and evenings. You'll be close to Pizzeria Casa Mia!

We will be staying here for 6 days in mid June 2008. I can write a review when we return in mid July.

The apartments look very nice and I know that we really like the location. We will be paying 110 euro per night for our stay in June.

Good Luck! Laurie

Well, after finally deciding on staying at Corte 1321, they aren't taking reservations for May of 09 yet. So, I guess I'll choose either the apartment at La Calcina, which we are familiar with or Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo. We will be in Venice during the first part of September, so we will walk over to the Corte and take a look.

Thanks Laurie, we will have our 23 year old son with us. After looking at numerous apartments, I became frustrated with the 30% deposits and situations where some don't even furnish toilet paper. We have trips planned for this August as well as September of 09, so just too much outgoing deposits right now. We were going to Provence next May, but after our return from Paris last week, we missed Italy so much, decided that we didn't want to venture anywhere else, thus, the planning stages for this replacement trip.

Thanks for everyone's help, I really do appreciate it.

On our only trip to Venice (so far! We loved it and want to go back), we stayed in the Cannareggio area. We enjoyed it a lot. It's very quiet but has a nice neighborhood feel. It's a very pleasant 10-minute walk to the more visited areas, and we had fun exploring different ways in and out of the area.

Last year we went to Munich and stayed in a hotel that was about a 15-minute walk to the main tourist area, but it was in a seedy neighborhood and the walk seemed interminable. The "commute" from Cannaregio was not at all like that.

Good luck with your planning!
