I'm ready to arrange transportation from the Rome airport to our hotel by the Spanish Steps. There are 2 of us.
I'm looking at Executive Limousine Service who quoted me 50,00 Euro.Does this sound reasonable?
We don't want to take the train or bus this time.
Thanks.

I used these guys who brought me from FCO to Albergo Santa Chiara (behind the Pantheon). They charged me 26 euro. You can go to their site and fill in the information there or do what I did. I e-mailed them at airportshuttle@airportshuttle.it and gave them the same info they asked for on their site. I e-mailed them because I wanted to let them know that I got their name from the people here at Slowtrav. They will reply in a day or two to confirm. At the airport they'll have your name on their sign. Ask them what the cost will be.

45-50 E is the most common charge for FCO to downtown Rome hotels, based on prices of two companies I've used often for clients plus what I see hotels charge if they arrange transfers for guests.

I'm puzzled at your 26 E rate, Cynde...that same website shows these prices:

For downtown Rome going TO the airport: 2 Passengers € 29,50
Fiumicino Airport to Rome transfer add € 11,00

So, that makes the rate of the company you used be $ 40.50 E for FCO to hotel. Still a good deal, but not 26 E. Shall we not ask how you got a 26 E rate? :-)

Thank-you for your reply Cynde & Sally. I clicked on this site's transportation link a few days ago and only received a quote from Executive Limousine Service Rome. I want to use a service recommended on this site. I appreciate your help.

I've just checked airportshuttle.it
Looks good to me.Two people for 29,50 Plus 11,00 Euro to go from Rome airport in to city.
One person is 15 plus 11,00 Euro for same.
This looks just right for us.
Thanks again.

Sally, sometimes there is no explanation. It may be your lucky day or they just can't resist your charm. I was shopping for a hotel for the Carnevale next year and I could only find one that I considered to be in a convenient location. It was very expensive and I told the Reservation Desk Manager that it was way over my budget. He came back with a lower rate and still it was a little bit over. Two days later he confirmed my reservation at the rate I could pay. The next thing that happened was that I received an offer from another first class hotel and the rate, of course, was too high. I replied the same, too high, and I already had made a reservation for such and such rate. Well, they came back to me and gave me an unbelievable cheaper rate. I asked the gentleman if I was going to sleep in the Annex, which I didn't want, and he promised me that I will be in the main building and in a very comfortable room. I will visit the hotel to check, if I ever make my planned trip this September. Cynde sounds to be a very outgoing and friend person. That helps everywhere, believe me Smile Cool

Both Airport Shuttle and Shuttle Roma Airport recieve Thumbs Up Thumbs Up from me. I have used bith of them and numerous clients of mine have also used both of them. They are both relatively at the same price point.

Thanks to all,
I've sent in my request to airportshuttle.it
These recommendations were just what I needed.
Awaiting confirmation.
Did you prepay or pay them in Euro after the ride?

Pay on the shuttle. Might as well send an email to Shuttle Roma. It won't hurt to get another comparison.

You will also have the option to pay in cash or by credit card for the Airport Shuttle ride, but I believe they ask for a credit card for securing the reservation.

I reserved my ride with airportshuttle a few months before my trip. At that time it was 26 euro. Then about a week before I left I e-mailed them again, tacking on their previous e-mail to me with the 26 euro cost, and asked them to confirm that someone will be there to pick me and that the cost was the same. It was the same price on their site too, at that time. In April, I think. Anyway, everything was fine. I paid the guy 30 euro (dang it, why'd they have to be so cute) and he was happy. So was I. Could we be talking about different services? Airport Shuttle offers a shared-ride service at a lesser cost. The private ride/pick-up costs more, I think.

Looking at the airportshuttle site I see, for one person, that it's 15 euro from a Rome hotel to FCO. Below it, it says to add 11 euro for FCO to Rome. Which together adds up to my 26 euro. I remember that when I arrived I looked for my name on their sign at the airport there was another name too, but that party did not show up. Maybe it was intended to be shared but the other party was a no show. In any event, 26 euro was no big deal for me. I was just so happy to be there.

Cynde,
We will use airportshuttle, as well, if we get an answer from them. We know it is a van, want someone to meet us with the sign, take us to the hotel door, and if someone else is being dropped off we'll consider it free sightseeing.
A few other companies offer the same service for less but we like having a recommendation from people who have used them recently on this board. Thanks for your input.

Can anyone comment on the possibility of riding the train that goes from Fiumicino airport to Termini station? I read somewhere that it's pretty cheap, fast and leaves every 30 minutes. Sound quite convenient to me! Any thoughts?

Oh my God! We're leaving in 2 days!!!

The train is a good option. You can get to the train station from the airport. Click the little map on THIS PAGE and you will see how to find it.

Christian,
It's been almost 9 years since I took the local train from Fiumicino to Termini station, so feel free to ignore my comments!

I recall walking out of international (United) baggage claim and following signs to the train - which was just across a narrow street. I bought my one-way ticket from a ticket machine - it must have been very easy, since I barely spoke any Italian! - and boarded the train with my bag. It was about a 30 minute ride.

I remember that I had trouble at Termini finding the correct bus (the infamous #64) to get me to my hotel, but catching and riding the train were a cakewalk.

The train is very simple to use. just follow the signs and they will lead you directly to the station. Most likely, you will be arriving in terminal C. After customs, where you come out to the waitingare, just straight ahead and a little bit to the left is an escalator heading down. Take that and you our on your way to the station. At the station, do not bother with the ticket windows. There is always a line. Instead head to the newspaper stand straight ahead and buy your ticket there. There are two tickets you can purchase. One is for the Leonardo Express. This is the direct train to Termini. Price is something like 8.90 or so. Or you can get the regular train into the surrounding areas of Rome. For instance, i would recommend this if you are staying in the Trastevere area. This ticket is about half the price as the Leonardo Express. I do not remember what the other stops are on this train.

If you have to take that route, take the 40 instead. It runs an almost identical route and it is not as bad.

I am glad to hear that Aiport shuttle is getting two thumbs up as I just received a quote of 51.50 euros for 4 persons including luggage (1 large plus carryon/pers). We are going to book them for sure.

Tony, I didn't know at the time that the 64 bus had such a bad rep - it wasn't until after I got home that I started reading the pickpocket horror stories! Thanks for the alternate bus number for next time.
