The Borghese advises that the Caravaggio Bacon exhibition will run from Oct 1 through Jan 24th and that they are NOW accepting reservations. So, if any are planning to visit this fall, it may be wise to jump on the reservation ASAP.

I see on their ticket site that there is availability (300+ for each time slot on the day we plan to reserve in October) but I can't find any information about the exhibit.

Could you please provide a link to this? This must be the one Rome Addict referred to, although she mentioned Caravaggio and Bernini.

Here is the June thread started by Rome Addict mentioning this exhibition.

Echoing Debra ---- I would LOVE a link to the exhibition; which is still not on the Borghese website. Could you post it, please, JHD? I'm hoping to be in Rome in October.

And I was confused about Bernini - it was Bacon. We saw the Caravaggio exhibiton in 2001 that was the largest collection of Caravaggio's to date. Considering that the Borghese has a decent number of Caravaggios and that usually these kinds of exhibitions end up being tit for tat with other galleries this exhibition could surpass 2001. The downside is that tat could mean that the Borghese Caravaggios will go traveling for quote some time in the future.

On the Borghese web site I emailed to the address for reservations and tickets and their reply was, essentially, what I posted. The "info" email address didn't work for me.

There is no mention of the exhibit on their web site.

My last visit was disappointing because most of their Caravaggios were "on loan."

They were all back at home in May. Hence I'm thinking that this exhibition could either be "payback" for all the touring their Caravaggios have done or the beginning of a long tour for them in the future.

For information about the mostra (http://www.ticketeria.it/ticketeria/mostra-caravaggio_bacon-galleria-borghese-ita.asp)

For online ticket purchase:

http://www.ticketeria.it/ticke...hese-privacy-ita.asp
Click "ACCETA", will take you to...

http://www.ticketeria.it/ticke...-regolamento-ita.asp
Click "ACCETA", will open a new window.

From here on, just choose and enter as necessary, and click "Prosegui" to proceed. A few tips...
1. Enter Family (Last) name in "Nome." Enter Given (First) Name in "Cognomen."
2. On the screen for "Provincia" and "Cita," choose "Estero" (foreign) in both.
3. Enter credit card number as one long number: no word spaces or hyphens.
4. Some of the screens can take a while to refresh to the next.

I'm underwhelmed by the prospect of having to look at paintings by Francis Bacon. Maybe Alyssa will be interested.

And how are these mostra mounted? My recollection of the Borghese doesn't include any special gallery spaces. Are other works unmounted?

Links fixed.

Hi, I just tried to get on the link Bucky mentioned, and I couldn't do it. It said the web address wasn't functioning. Has anyone else tried recently? Thanks.

I booked on this link:
http://www.ticketeria.it/ticketeria/borghese-eng.asp

In the past the Borghese would not allow booking until 60 days before entry, but this time it allowed me to get mid-October.

Hi - thanks for fixing the links! I may be having translation problems, but am I correct that one just has to book a general reservation for the museum, as opposed to having to buy a special ticket for the Caravaggio Bacon show?
Thanks to all.

The link I posted above is in English.
I have my tickets for the Borghese Gallery, timed entry, and am assuming this includes the Caravaggio special exhibit as the museum is relatively small.

I bought tickets for October 2. My understanding of what I read on the website is that you need to buy a regular ticket but they reserve the right to perhaps charge you more if there is a special exhibition (which would be charged when you arrive). So we'll see if they consider this a special exhibition.

I just bought a ticket for late October. The exhibit is included in the general price, which has perhaps been raised because of the exhibit. (The cost was 14.50 Euros, including online reservation fee; when I went this past April, it was during the free museum week so I have no comparison.)

We bought tickets a couple weeks ago, for October 1. The last day of our trip to Rome this fall. Several days later, received email saying the C/B exhibition had been postponed to October 2nd. Ah, Italy. Replied asking for a refund and received it in a couple days. That was very nice of the ticketeria.

We'll probably skip the Borghese this trip. Lord knows what the place will look like in the week before the exhibit.

Thanks!
