A quick question, I hope.

We will be traveling to Italy in October, we will be doing 17 days around the country then boarding a ship in Venice. We don't really want to have to schlepp our cruise stuff with us if we don't need to, for obvious security and hassle reasons. We found out Holland America works with a group called 'Transgroup worldwide Logistics'. They will pick up our bags at our home and deliver them to the pier where they will then go into a cage and when the ship arrives then delivered to our cabin.
The question is has anybody ever used this company? Has anyone here ever shipped their bags ahead by any company? And what do all of you think about this idea?
I figure we would ship one-two suiter and one or two large suitcases. (The tricky part of this is that we CAN'T want or need any of these clothes anywhere along the Italy portion of the trip. YIKES!)

Your ideas and thoughts are much appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time.

CinCin,
Wendy and Rob

I've not used that particular company, but clients have used companies that do the same thing. If Holland America is using the company, I would think it is as reliable and safe as any such entity can be, and well worth the risk in convenience. I would probably get those locks that you can put on the suitcase and the TSA can remove if necessary to inspect, but otherwise the baggage stays locked.

After 17 days in Italy, 'new' fresh clothes would be a joy to have waiting for me! I always get really really tired of things I wear for many days repeatedly.

Thank you Sally, I asked about the TSA locks when I called to get a quote, (ouch!) Eek, the girl from Transgroup...said 'that if we locked our bags and customs or anyone else wanted in they would cut the lock off and if they damaged the bag her company would not cover the repair costs.'

As for those locks, I definitately want to get some for the bags we carry with us.

The cost is high to ship some of our bags to the ship, but the comfort level and convenience of not having all our bags in our car on the days we are going from say Rome-Strove or Strove- Brisighelli...would be worth it, I think. And not to have to schlepp the bags to our rooms in Tuscany and E/R or even into the water taxi in Venice may out weigh the cost.

What does anyone else have to say? Has anyone used this company?
