My husband and I have decided to visit Umbria for a month instead of Tuscany and are intrigued by the Poreta area, just north of Spoleto. We have seen the many mentions of Castello di Poreta, but has anyone actually been to or know someone who has stayed at Le Terre di Poreta (www.leterrediporeta.it)?
It is run by the Montani family (Villa della Genga Olive Oil) and is a combo farm and restoration of several old burgos into very nice homes and apartments (and eventually suites?)
They have a gorgeous pool, tennis courts and occupy 200 hectares of the valley, facing west.
Just curious why more of you slow travellers haven't mentioned Poreta as a friendly, quiet spot to stay?
Hi Jane, We have coming to area every year for the past 4 years and love it. We have friends that own and rent places in Poreta, Spoleto and the surrounding area. The place you are considering looks pretty amazing. We love staying in this area because it is very close to Spoleto as well as Montefalco, Foligno, Bevagna, etc. Also not too far from Assisi and Perugia. Good wine, good food and beautiful scenery. If you like wine, make an appointment at Paolo Bea in Montefalco, our favorite winery in Umbria. Tom
