We are going to be visting San Gimignano in Sept. Could anyone recommend some interesting wineries in the area or just some that are pleasant to visit? Our preference would be white wines that are not too dry, but are willing to try some reds.

Also would be interested in some wineries that have some nice oil olive.

The fabulous Teruzzi Puthod winery has opened a tasting room outside the city that is lovely, they make several wines,of course the vernaccia di san gimignano, and their special label

San Gimmy info from my site
In Baberino Val d'Elsa is Paolo at Isola and Olena, also in Barbaino, right at the walls of the city there is a villa that sells there oils and wines right there. I ahve had the oil and it is wonderful.

We sought out a little winery called Cesani, which was right outside San Gimignano.

We had dinner inside the walls and had this little chianti and loved it (and we're not big chianti fans as a general rule.) We took the bottle back to our hotel (Villa San Paolo - which we would definitely recommend), and when we asked the concierge if she had any idea where the winery was she pointed behind her. Turns out as the crow flies it was about 400 yards. Driving it was about four minutes.

The wine makers daughter gave us a tasting and was extremely friendly and informative. The room was very new and comfortable. And the white wine was an award winner.

Pietrasirena and Pietrafitta are both in the area and nice. FOr olive oil Fattoria Lischetto which is on the northern road from san Gin towards Volterra is nice but the wine is nothing special. Lischetto makes incredible cheeses. He is a big supporter of slow food and you can find his info on their web page. slow food web site
