In most of North-Central Italy is currently snowing since 1st February, even large cities, lower hills and valleys are covered with snow. Although this is causing many inconveniences it also shows Tuscany under an unusual look like the picture attached showing the temple of San Biagio in Montepulciano.
They only partially ploughed major roads leaving the upper part of the town untouched. That's the problem and the beauty of this place We are unprepared to cope with exceptional snow events but so far nothing to be really worried although many small villages and farms are isolated. Snow falls are forecasted until Sunday!
Wonderful photos of one of my favorite places. I particularly love the one of San Biagio ~ beautiful!
I'm jealous of your snow fall. It's another dry, clear day on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada in California. We should be buried in snow as you are....
Ciao!

Just heard the latest news. Puglia and Calabria a white chaos - fruit and vegetables are frozen - ghost towns - wind 150 km/h - Genova Trieste frozen - Laguna Venezia looks like Polo Nord - 40 dead till now -Italy Raises Gas Alert Level As Demand Hits Historic High
My relatives are saying it's like the North Pole this year. Water pipes freezing and extreme wind in the mountain towns. Tommorrow Accuweather predicts another 9.4 inches or about 25cm's of snow! I hope not for their sakes.

Hello All, it looks like a fair amount of italy was hit with snow recently. Here is another stunning view of the recent snows. This is near Carassai in the Le Marche region:
My web-based Italian radio station just had a report about cold-related deaths and massive traffic problems from the weather. Our cousins near Lucca have been sending us photos and say that they are doing well, but sounds like the country is having a lot of difficulties.

The snow is beautiful, but in Casperia and the Sabina area in Lazio, north of Rome, where they depend so much on their olive production, there is concern that many of the olive trees will not survive the ice and cold.
