Could someone please tell me current cost of a metered taxi from FCO to Piazza di Spagna? Is this a fixed rate now? And is it still true that a tip is not expected?

Any other info re: the airport taxi scene would be appreciated. Thanks!
Betsy

Hi Betsy,
Last summer the price was fixed at euro 40,00. I haven't heard that it has gone up, but others may have more recent news. To get a taxi, you just need to go out the main exit doors and find the line. The times I have taken a cab from the airport, the taxis had GPS, but one driver couldn't find my street. At a traffic light he handed me his street atlas and I pinpointed where I was going. He got me there in pretty good time, and safe and sound. I love the experience of riding with Roman drivers. Gives me a chance to get into the traffic without having to actually drive! Big Grin

If you think you can do it, traveling the train and then the metro to Piazza di Spagna is pretty easy.

Looking forward to meeting up with you in Rome.

Thanks for taxi info. I too love riding with those crazy Italian drivers. Regrettably, will not be bold enough on Day 1 to take train and metro into Roma. I live in a fairly small town, most days rarely go more than 2-3 miles from home, rarely encounter traffic or crowds . . so have to ease into Rome. By Day 3 might be able to figure out how to keep from locking myself out of our flat. By Day 5, might be able to cross a street without grabbing onto the ankles of the nearest large Roman to run interference. Maybe can take public transport by Day 6! And like you, I'm ALWAYS lost :-)

Are you being serious Smile I come from a small ISLAND where we dont have trains or metro to be honest not even suitable roads to drive on. If you the money to waste when its far more cheaper by train and metro ..... than go for it girl Smilebut otherwise think about it ..... enjoy your stay

Thanks for your advice! We all balance each expenditure cost vs. benefit.

the cost is still 40 euros but fix the price with the driver before hand as I've heard of plenty of people being taken around the streets and being charged over 50 euros.

Signed up with Airport Connection for shuttle bus, to my destination, 37 Euros.

So no taxi/train issues after stumbling off plane (no sleep for me in flight, espec when excited about Italia)

thanks

http://www.airportconnection.it

As you may know, there are many other car services and airport transfer options listed and reviewed on slowtrav and elsewhere. Chose this one because price is less than a cab and seems to have all the advantages of a limo service albeit in a small bus rather than shiny Mercedes. No deposit required, just cash on the spot. If there's a glitch and they don't show up, can just catch a taxi. (Have seen no negative reviews and a few positive ones.)
