I don't know about you, but I am NOT a Celine Dion fan, so I was pleased to read that Bette Midler is replacing her at the Ceasars Palace starting February 2008. A reason to go to Las Vegas!!

I saw Bette Midler at a nightclub in Vancouver in the mid 70s and she was fabulous. (Steve was also at that show, but we did not know each other then.)

It will be a 90-minute show and Midler says "I think it'll be my usual outrageous, flamboyant, over-the-top show."

We saw Joan Rivers at Ceasars Palace years ago and I laughed so hard I nearly hurt myself.

So does this mean Celine Dion will go back to recording albums? Or is she retiring?

A friend of mine in Mississippi keeps trying to convince me to go with him to Vegas to see Prince. I hear he's good live, but I just dunno bout that...

Oh good! I love Bette but I am not a fan of Celine.

This is going to work perfectly. We were planning on going to Vegas in November but we just found out my husband is going to have to have hip surgery. There is a five to six month waiting list so that means the trip is off. We were just talking last night that February or March 2008 would be a good time to go.

Now I am glad we have to wait.

Go, go, go! YES!! definitely go see Prince. I haven't seen his Vegas shows but if he is 1/10th as good as he was in his early days when he played at Uncle Sams in Minneapolis you will have seen a rock n roll show and a half!! Incredible stage performer. I was in Minneapolis visiting family and we went out clubbing and hit Uncle Sams. The memory of that incredible night sticks with me in a very select pantheon of rock n roll performances which include Billy Joel playing piano at the Camelback Palms one evening after his show at the Am West Arena, the Who riffing at Dar Magrib and the Pointer Sisters in the round at the Guthrie (700 seat theatre).

If you want to know how good he can be? Rent Purple Rain - the story is standard but Prince's filmed stage performances are electrifying. And that's on film!! The Vegas people "get it" when it comes to stage producing rock n roll. Hard Rock Cafe taught them how.

As to the Divine Miss M? I'm signing up to be one of the worshippers!!!

Thank God Celine is retiring her show. I've always been embarassed that she is Canadian . . . some people seem to love her (no accounting for taste or lack thereof I guess).

I'd go and see Bette in a flash. It might even be enough to get me to Vegas.

I think she'll be a tremendous draw.

You'll never get me to Vegas, though Wink Grin

Celine Dion leaving Vegas?

Bad news for all of us who like to keep Canada a "Dion-Free Zone".

Now now everyone ... there is something for everyone's enjoyment and while I"m not a fan either, she was sold out for the entire 5 years of her gig there. She's helping the GDP. She's a Canadian who's made it big in the US.

How do you think we feel out here in the West, where our most famous contributions to the entertainment world have been Pamela Anderson and BC Gold?

I love Celine. Big Grin

I also know of a relationship that was derailed over disagreement over Celine. The story involved a boy meeting a girl, a pair of concert tickets, and the unhappy ending Wink

I just checked with Ticketmaster and the Bette Midler tickets are already on sale for her Vegas stint. We're trying to block out a weekend to go...

So far, there are only 14 days scheduled.

HUGE Bette fan here. Joanna's Dancing Man
Since Vegas is a regular haunt, that is an added bonus.
Never could understand the Celine thing. I just assumed I was the odd-ball. But it looks like I have lots of company.

I adore Bette Midler! She's talented, funny, and seems like a darn nice lady, too. I'd love to see her live.

Bette was on American Idol last night and sang Wind Beneath my Wings (always gives me goose bumps when I hear her sing it).

She’s the only artist I know that smiles constantly throughout her performance, which makes her doubly cool in my book! Smile

I too love the Divine Miss M, but was quite dismayed when we arrived in Vegas on New Years Day 2000 and read about the nasty remarks she made about Barbra Streisand the night before. Both Bette and Barbra had concerts the night before, right across the street from each other, and apparently Bette felt somehow threatened. I love both of them!!!

I've since since Bette in concert, but still remember her less than classy remarks.....

I've been a fan of Bette Midler's since back in the early 70s, and she's never been one to "hold back". In a way, I suppose, that's part of her charm, to just be out there. I have noticed that in recent years, she seems to have toned down her remarks somewhat, but I guess we all have those times when we should have held our tongue...

Rob and I saw Bette in Vegas two years ago at the main arena at the MGM. She was mawvelous! We had great seats center section row 10 I think it was.

Seeing her again is definitely a reason to return to Vegas, but can't imagine when...

Thanks Pauline for posting this info. We too are not Celine fans
