I was just reading a wonderful trip report about someones visit to "my" city; he mentioned some normal traveler confusion regarding how to get here or there--all I could think of was "NOBODY TOLD HIM ABOUT THE CHICAGO GREETER SERVICE!" New York has Big Apple Greeters, Chicago has Chicago Greeters and I think Houston has something.

Anyhow, you go into the site, choose a neighborhood or area or interest and a date (plus an alternative if possible) and you get a free tour (from a volunteer like me) complete with free bus or train passes. It's an increble program and everyone who uses it loves it.

So, if you're coming to Chicago, maybe you'll get me as your guide!

Hi,

I just signed up to be a Big Apple Greeter and I have my first tour scheduled for March. Next time I am in Chicago I will definitely try to get you as a guide, likewise let me know when you are coming to New York City.

Regards,
Sheryl

www.chicagogreeter.org is ours. I'll definitely request you the next time I'm in New York. Do you do tours of any of the other boroughs? I've been to Manhattan numerous times but never Queens, Bronx or Brooklyn.

In Chicago I do tours of Beverly/Morgan Park (which one NY visitor likened to the nicer section of Queens), Lincoln Park, and several of the ethnic areas, as well as the Loop and Lakefront. I don't do a very good art tour, so if you want that you'd have to request someone else. Smile
