Many of our choices, including Boulevard, are not open for lunch on Saturdays. We would like a special occasion type restaurant although it doesn't have to be too fancy.

Near Union Square, Grand Cafe is one of my favorite places for a delicious meal with good service in a beautiful setting.

Scala's Bistro has a nice ambiance, good food and service, but it can get noisy.

Chez Papa Resto is another favorite. It's not as elegant as the Grand Cafe, but the food and service meet its high standard.

HERE are other slow traveler restaurant reviews for San Francisco.

Chez Papa seemed like a great choice but, unfortunately, it's closed this Saturday for a private party. Have you been to the Bistro?

Plouf is closed on Saturdays for lunch which seems to be the case with many of the restaurants.

No, I haven't. Its location isn't as convenient for me as the Mint Plaza Resto, and the mixed reviews I read for it didn't encourage me to make the effort. Smile

Other ideas:
Cafe Claude (near Union Square)
Puccini & Pinetti (near Union Square)
Absinthe (near Civic Center) Saturday brunch, 11am-3pm
Zuni Cafe (Market St.)

I was going to recommend Absinthe as well! I like to pretend I am in Paris when I am there Dorky Traveler. Hayes Valley is a fun neighborhood, lots of boutiques and galleries to browse in after lunch.

Regarding Chez Papa Bistro, is that the location on Potrero Hill? I go there all the time, but not since the new chef came aboard.

Just Travel, welcome home and thank you for all of the lovely Venice photos!

Thanks, Susie. Can't believe we have been home for a week. We are missing Venice big time!! Sorry to miss the SF GTG tomorrow night. Have fun!

We like Tadich Grill on California Street. I like the dungeness crab salad there best.

My son and daughter want to go to Yang Sing although I don't particularly feel like dim sum. Any comments?

Dim sum at Yank Sing is very good. It's actually where I go for dim sum.

Thumbs Up

I would go to the one in the Rincoln Center on Spear Street instead of the one on Stevenson Street.

Bon appetit!

Another idea--
Go to the Ferry Building. Wander around and see what appeals. Lots of choices right there and lots of interesting food-related shopping, too.

My husband also nixed dim sum so now we have all agreed on Bocanova in Oakland. We have to pick-up my son at SFO so Oakland ia an option on our drive back to the East Bay.

My daughter has been there and said it's very good. I'll post my comments.

Ferry Building. The Slanted Door. Thai food that's beautiful and delicious with great service. You even stand a chance of actually getting a table without reservations if you're there when the lunch doors open and you smile real nice...and have a bit of luck on your side. Otherwise have a fun lunch from the Saturday market vendors for a real taste of San Francisco.

After all the back and forth with restaurant choices, we had to cancel our plans to fly up North. Frown My daughter has been sick all week and is not better and my son, who is flying in for appointments in SF, is also still hanging on to a cold so we didn't want to expose ourselves.

We'll be up there soon so I'll keep all the great suggestions in mind.
