Karen,
A search of this forum didn't bring up any specific recommendations for golf, sun or nightlife, but here are a few threads that might be helpful:

Puerto Rico (1)

Puerto Rico (2)

Caribbean options

Thank you both for your help! I also did a Slow Trav search... not much there about PR.

I am actually inquiring for my 25 year old son and some of his friends. They want to go down to PR for 4-5 days ...their stay will be short, so they do not want to have to travel a great distance from the airport to get to their hotel.

They would like a nice hotel (not outrageously expensive, but not a place where drunk college kids would stay) near a nice beach …and would like to be close to bars and clubs. They would like to snorkel and maybe do some caving. Golf is not the priority… but if it works, fine… if not… that’s ok too.

Would “Old San Juan” be good for young adult nightlife? Any other ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That reads like Condado in San Juan to me.

Old San Juan is good too, but... I don't know, it's more gentrified, expensive, and has more of a B&B crowd and maybe your son might prefer the hotel scene at Condado?
