Colleen, thanks for posting this! I'll be in S.F. in July and would love to see this. The exhibit looks brilliant!
My father was a serious art glass collector and I inherited his collection a few years back. I have such fond memories of going to galleries with him to look at new pieces.
I'm not much of a Chihuly fan, but have to admit that I'm looking forward to seeing some of the pieces in this show. The "Saffron Tower" (lighted outdoor installation) and the "Persian Ceiling" in particular interest me.

Hey, Colleen, next time you're in SD I'll take you to a free Chihuly exhibit at my favorite Thai restaurant.......Didn't know you were interested. I kind of like his whimsy and outrageous forms....
... I once knew a young woman who was the nanny for a San Francisco art gallery owner's young son. She invited me over to their Nob Hill flat for lunch one day, and showed me around. Fabulous modern art on the walls, and when she opened the door for the built in bar - there was a Frida Kahlo painting! Kahlo was the only artist in the whole place whose work I recognized.

Wow, I am so seeing the Frida Kahlo exhibit when I'm in S.F. next month. I think my yoga training is near the museum. And those extended Summer hours will make make it very doable.
Colleen, we had Chihuly at the Missouri Botanical Gardens 2-3 years ago. A fabulous exhibit, that we were fortunate enough to have several stunning pieces donated as a permanant display. http://www.mobot.org/chihuly/Chi_donations.asp

I read a blurb about this painting (on loan to the exhibit at MOMA) in the paper the other day ... it turns out that the gallery owner's father had had a fling with Ms. Kahlo!
Marta and I are going to the Chihuly exhibit on Saturday - we'll report back.

I didn't expect to like it as much as I did! I find most Chihuly pieces over-the-top and gaudy - somehow, though, they all worked beautifully in this exhibit.
Here's a taste of what we saw yesterday ... go if you can!

No flash allowed so no pictures worthy enough to post...but check out the links and videos and even they don't do it justice...for the experience to see this in person.
