I saw chef David Chang on Charlie Rose the other night, and was impressed with his cooking philosophy and style.

I was thinking that Chang's noodle bar might be a good spot for lunch when I'm in NYC next month. Has anyone been? Comments?

Thanks!
Colleen

Momofuku Ssam - 207 2nd Avenue ( corner of 13th Street) is on my block. Great Food.

I have not tried the one on First Avenue as it just opened.

Regards,
Sheryl in NYC

Thanks, Sheryl.
I'll take both restaurant addresses, and see where I end up at lunchtime!

We have been to the noodle bar on 1st Ave. between 10th and 11th several times. It's one of our favorite places to eat in NYC! Absolutely scrumptious steamed pork buns. The chicken buns are fabulous, too. The last couple of times I was there we also got the grilled baby octopus---out of this world. Another favorite of ours is the roasted rice cakes. And did I mention the awesome ramen?

I highly recommend you go there when you're in NY!!

According to yesterday's NY Times, the Second Avenue location will be closed for the most of August. (Although I don't see this on the website.)

As of this morning the restaurant was still open. It looks like they are expanding into the vacant store next door.

Sheryl

I'm not sure but I think David Chang has 3 places.
1.--the original momfuko noodle bar
2--"Sam" whatever.
3--the newest is Ko.

Somebody who lives and eats in Manhattan can probably straighten this out.

I don't live there, but if you look on the Momofuku home page here you can click on all three restaurants and get information on each.

There are endless discussions of Chang's restuarants on egullet.org and chowhound.com. I personally was that impressed by Ssam Bar but it seems like most people are.

Christy,
Did you mean to say you were *not* that impressed with Ssam? Details, please. Smile
