My husband and I would like to take our son, grandson and my nephew (9, 7 and 12 years old) to Niagara Falls at the end of June. I have consistently read that the Canadian side is better, but my nephew (12) doesn't have a passport--or any picture I.D. While I would bring a notarized letter authorizing me, as auntie, to take said child across the border, I am thinking the lack of picture ID would be a BIG problem and not worth the hassle (if we could even get across without it).
I am wondering if anyone knows if there is a way around this problem or, alternately, if it's even worth going to just the American side? We would only be there for two full days, one night. In addition to seeing the falls, of course, we had been looking forward to the wineries and butterflies on the Canadian side. In NY I know the Maid of the Mist is available and ...what else? Any encouragement welcomed enthusiastically! Diane
Children under 16 years need only to present proof of citizenship. See the consular rules here. I also enjoyed the tunnels under the falls. Great viewpoint and truly a reminder of the power of the falls. The view from the American side is OK. Not as spectacular (obviously) but worthy of a peek.
