My 21 year old daughter, a college junior, has just surprised me by asking me to go on a spring break trip with her the week of March 3 - 10. She wants to go somewhere in Florida where she can go to the pool or beach and do some tanning, maybe do a spa day, eat at nice restaurants, etc. In other words, she DOESN'T want to hang out with the college spring breakers. I am guessing that Miami or Miami Beach might be what she'd like, but maybe Naples would be good too? She mainly wants to go where it will be warm and sunny.

I know this is late in the game to be planning, but I would love suggestions on where to stay. She has a passport so we wouldn't have to stay in Florida but that just seems easiest to me. She would be travelling from Cincinnati and I would leave from Pittsburgh. Thanks in advance for your help.

Mary,
Our paths cross again!

Look into Boca Grande... it's on the gulf coast and is an island with a one, toll bridge, access. It has a few good restaurants, some quaint shopping and great, white sand beaches and is quiet!! It's located South of Sarasota and just on the north side of Port Charlotte harbor by Fort Myers.

It's known for it's tarpon fishing but is also a great hideaway.

The other option is Sanibel Island...off the coast of Fort Myers.. very tropical and fun. Great dining too. Both locations you fly into Fort Myers or Sarasota. To keep airfares down, you can fly into Tampa and drive south.

If you want more details... email me.

I'd also suggest Sanibel for low-key, adult trip. It's truly lovely, with miles of unspoiled beaches, an amazing wildlife preserve for walking and kayaking (or just driving through to stop and see the migrating waterfowl--flocks of pink Roseate Spoonbills are my favorite), some great restaurants (Twilight Cafe is excellent), and no honkey-tonk. If you'd like additional details I can supply them in the thread later today.

(and hey, I'll be in Pbgh this weekend--more snow, huh?)

Another vote for Sanibel...been there many times and it is lovely, with a number of alternatives for formal or casual dining and for just wiling away you time. It ain't cheap, though. If you want a great steak dinner go to the restaurant in the country club.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have a lot of research to do this weekend.

The snow is supposed to start about 6 PM tonight and accumulate 1-3 inches by morning. That really shouldn't be any problem, especially since it's over a weekend. For the weekend, they are only predicting flurries -- but it will be cold.

Vero Beach is fairly laid back and without the college madness crowd. Or nearby Staurt and Jensen Beach may be of interest.

Enjoy
