My husband is going to a conference in Vegas in November and asked if I'd like to tag along. However, I'd be on my own during the day, only the evenings we would be busy together and could certainly find some shows to entertain us.

But what do I do during the day all by myself? I'm quite anti-gambling. And no, I won't have $$$ to go shopping. Guess I could do a day-trip to see the Grand Canyon. Is it too cool to lie at the pool? What else is there?

There's the Ceasars Forum..a massive shopping center..

If you love Hawaii, and need a fix there's an ABC store there.

This site might help you

The Grand Canyon is a long day trip. There are shorter trips to Boulder Dam area and other places.
Also there may be a guide for the Red Rock park west of Las Vegas. This is really close. In November the weather may not be a factor for the outside activities

Don't know about the weather in November. We were there in the summer. It was, of course, very hot and we spent part of every day IN the pool! We did take a Bus Trip and tour of Hoover Damn. I think we arranged this through the Hotel. Another day we rented a car and drove out to Red Rock Canyon, which was really beautifu. It was less than an hour drive from the Strip.

This was a family trip with 4 other families several years ago, so I am not sure how helpful this info is for your. We had a good time, although I am not a Vegas fan. As I recall the shows were not inexpensive. I would not plan a return trip, but would probably tag along on a business trip given the opportunity. Just wandering through the hotels on the Strip could occupy a day!

The weather can be very cold (ok, cold for ME) in November. We have spent several Thanksgivings in Vegas, and it is in the 50s during the day, or colder at night. I pull out my heavy SF coat for that! A bit chilly for pool time.

I'm into eating and shopping in Vegas (besides my video poker habit). You can spend a couple of hours just walking through some of the beautiful hotels to see the gorgeous architecture and artwork. The Wynn is fabulous, and the art and interior spaces are gorgeous at Bellagio. See the water show there, wander through the shopping area (they are too expensive for EVERYONE), see the Eiffel Tower across the street at Paris, then wander down to the Venetian and Palazzo for a touch of Italy.

It is fun to go out to Lake Las Vegas to the Ritz Carlton and see the "village" built on the lake with a Vegas version of the Ponte Vecchio.

There are many spas in the hotels for pampering, and if you do go, try Rosemary's on Saharah (away from the strip) for a moderately priced and fabulous dinner.

Now I want to go back!

We are not gamblers either. We spent a couple of days in early March one year in Vegas to see the Cirque du Soleil show "O". We spent a lot of time walking and just visiting each of the different themed casinos. The distances are pretty far apart on the Strip. Some of the non-gambling items to do

- The art museum in the Bellagio is an option. It is over priced but it will kill some time. There used to be a branch of the Guggenheim in the Venetian but it recently closed. There is also the Liberace Museum if it interests you.

- Aquarium at Mandalay Bay. If you have been to other aquariums and are a fan of aquariums, this one is disappointing but it is a reason to go to the end of the strip. (BTW, the Border Grill in the Mandalay is good if you like gourmet Mexican).

- Check out the various free displays at different hotels like the volcano at MGM, fountains at Bellagio, pirate show at Treasure Island.

- Fremont Street Experience - This is an event at night in old downtown Vegas. It is a light show on the canopy cover of the downtown pedestrian mall.

- White Tigers from the Sigfreid & Roy show at Mirage.

- Stratosphere Tower for a view of Vegas.

- Window shopping at all the casino malls.

Will you have a car? You don't really need one in Las Vegas, but if you happen to have one ... a trip out to the Valley of Fire state park would be memorable.

It's about an hour's drive from LV, and the land is like nothing I've ever seen. I felt like I was on the moon! (Except that it was hot as ... heck. Wink ) There are Indian petroglyphs on some of the rocks, and really, just stunning scenery.

I see from the website that it's only six miles from Lake Mead, so it could easily be included with a trip to Hoover Dam. (We'd been to Hoover Dam and Boulder City before, so didn't visit them.)

Valley of Fire is great, as is the tour of the Dam. Boulder City is a nice little town and has no gambling. Little shops line the main street, some are junky but I have friends who swear by them for antiques. Mt. Charleston is within 45 minutes so you can go from warm Vegas to cool Mr. Charleston in under a hour. If you do genealogy there are two good areas locally. There is a good size outlet mall downtown and past the Strip plus one out at State Line (oops, sorry now it is called Primm). Some of the hotels have afternoon shows but I am not sure what ones. The Four Seasons offers afternoon tea, but I think it is pretty expensive. You asked about weather, Nov is usually a lovely month, especially in the first couple weeks. The heat is gone but it is in the 70’s and is great for outdoor activities. That is the time of year when all kinds of local organizations hold craft shows on week-ends for Christmas stuff so if you like those things you could go to one or two. It is like any other city when you get off the Strip or leave downtown. Let me know if you want to meet for coffee (tea for me).

Vegas is so full of things to do that I somehow never manage to find the time to gamble.

The Bellagio and Wynn have wonderful art displays. There is also a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which has phenomenal traveling art shows. The admission price on these can vary.

There are a number of free or very cheap lounge acts during the day.

http://goestores.com This is one of my favorite Vegas resources. You can get tons of coupons for pennies each. They let you into various shows, attractions, etc.. Click on the link for coupons.

I'm cheap, what can I say?

Well, it's a bummer that the Grand Canyon is a bit further away than what I had thought. But it looks there are lots of other things right in LV or in the vicinity. Thanks for all those suggestions!
