If you are traveling to a place with expensive rooms like NYC and just want to be in a certain area, with a certain star level (can't name specific hotel in bidding reservation) Priceline works great!

Our hotel would be maybe 100/night higher booked directly. There are also whole websites dedicated to strategy on Priceline and Hotwire.

I just used it again. I'm addicted. I saved 70% off the retail rate for a 3 star hotel in S.F. for Memorial day weekend. RR

I've only used priceline once and a deal it was. $100 for a lovely room at the Copenhagen Marriott before our Baltic cruise.

I have used Priceline for Munich and Brussels and have stayed at very nice 4* hotels for around $60 per night.

Sometimes, the hotels are not exactly central but generally the larger cities in Europe have good transportation systems so it worked out fine.

Priceline used to have "bonus Money" when they were getting started and I was able to get nice hotel rooms for $10-$25. Sadly, they don't seem to offer the bonus money anymore.

I love Priceline!

Priceline is my 'go to' site for hotels. I just got a Crowne Plaza in LA for $ 40.

I think that they still have a points system - IF you sign up for and exclusively use their credit card for all of your priceline transactions. THAT won't be happening. LOL

Has anyone tried Priceline for "naming your own price" airfares?

Just curious if you've been happy.

thanks,
Cameron

I once -- many years ago -- made a posting also indicating my use of this service, of which I have been a frequent user for about 10 years. I believe the post was nixed by the administrator here, because there was some rule about not being allowed to "pitch" this service (and others, I believe.) Am I mistaken, or has this rule changed?

I don't know why your post was nixed. I've been a moderator for 8 years, and as far back as I can recall, the policy has been that anyone can recommend anything - UNLESS one is affiliated with the business. Even then a business or service can be recommended, except in cases where that person receives its services for free, or gets paid (or otherwise benefits) to promote it.

- No commercial postings. Do not post to promote your business, website or blog or a friend's business, website or blog. This includes congratulatory remarks on business achievements or media mentions. Gold Star members can add these well wishes to our Member Tidings and Mentions discussion in the Everything Else forum.
- You may recommend a friend's business or an associate's business only if you personally used it and paid for it. When recommending, please describe the specific instance in which you used the business service. For example, you may not recommend a hotel at which you book tours, unless you personally stayed there and paid for the privilege. If you did, then describe that instance when recommending.

The only other restriction is what we call the "10-day rule":
quote:
If you are not affiliated with the travel business, you are welcome to post about it on the forums but only after you have been a member of the forums for more than 10 days. You cannot join our boards just to post recommending a business.
