Today some friends invited us to go with them to the Winter Carnival in Quebec City in February! It sounds fabulous, but you can guess what kind of luck we are having trying to book a hotel this late. One of my main problems is that I've never been there before so I don't know the city. We don't want to rent a car, and want to be walking distance to as much of the carnival action as possible.
Can someone help? We'd like to arrive on February 7 and depart February 11, but may have to change the dates if we can't find anything available that weekend. We need two rooms and would like to stay under $200/night.
It's been years since I was there for Carnival but I love this hotel...old and historical. You can walk most places ... Upper and Lower town and to winter carnival activities.
I agree with the Frontenac. We used to take our students there when we went to the Carnival. The location is perfect. Even a small room without a view would be worth it.
A friend of mine stayed here last year and loved it. They appear to have rooms available for the time period for about $ 160 Canadian.

Jerry, what site did you use to find that price? I found availability for less than that for a room with a double bed, but I know we can't sleep in a double bed....we're too used to a king-sized . The hotel looks great. I may contact them anyway and see if they have anything else with a bigger bed.
It showed availability of King beds and the price. I didn't give it my credit card info to complete the transaction, but it looked like there were rooms available.
Gail, I am emailing my niece to get her suggestions. She is working on the World Hockey championship games that are being played in Quebec this year (as part of Quebec City's 400 anniversary celebrations).
We were able to book rooms at the Old Town Victorian Inn, across the street from the fabulous Chateau Frontenac. Our flights are booked with FF points, and we are so excited!
We decided to stay an extra night, coming home the 12th. Thanks for all the help, and I'll let you know how it is!
Now to hit the thrift stores for a down jacket....
Marion's advice about the warm boots is important. I remember it being so wet and slushy that I had to buy a second pair of boots when I was there. Also, spray them with protector. Pull out the long scarf, hat and mitts...for the men too.
I just got the confirmation from the agency, and the hotel has another name, Hotel Le Cap Diamont. I'm happy to see this as I wasn't able to find ANYTHING on the Old Town Victorian Inn, and was beginning to wonder if it existed at all.....
Le Cap Diamont gets good reviews on Trip Advisor, so we're fine!
If you get cold feet, here are other hotels that my niece suggested as good possibilities:
Auberge du Quartier :http://www.aubergeduquartier.com/ on Grande-allée, just outside the city's walls
Hotel Pur: http://www.hotelpur.com/ located in what was formally quartier saint-roch but the whole area has been improved and the hotel has been recently renovated
