Hi, my daughter saw an article about a hotel in Las Vegas that has a different theme for each room in the hotel. We are travelling to LA in August to visit relatives and, as we can't go to Las Vegas, I thought maybe there was something similar in LA. I have tried Googling but haven't had any luck. Obviously looking for something family appropriate.
Thank you! Cheers RobynAP

Can't say that I have heard of anything around here either, but I would think you might want to look for a place near the relatives? Or near the beach? LA, as I'm sure you know, is a pretty spread out area.

The Figueroa has a sort of Moroccan theme. I have stayed there - it's a great place! However it is across from the convention center and Staples so if there is something going on it can be hard to get rooms.

Thank you. I don't know LA really, I was there about 12 years ago and can't really recall how large it was. We would like to visit Universal Studios and the relatives are happy to meet up where ever, they live somewhere called Glendale (I think)? The beach would be nice although it may be crowded as plan to be there in August. Speaking of which, is it unbearable in August in either LA or Chicago (another meet the relatives stop...) I like dry heat but humidity can slow me up!

"somewhere called Glendale" - s'funny because we're just a few miles from there. Actually Glendale is very close to Universal Studios, and not far from downtown Los Angeles. It will be hot in August, but hardly humid. How long will you be here and how large is your family - you might want to look for a suite hotel?, which would give you more space. I can check around later, but here's an example:

The only themed hotel I can think of is the Madonna Inn near San Luis Obispo, central coast wine country, and the Hearst Castle?
Not near LA, but if you are driving and want to do a side trip, here is a link to the site.

Thanks, I'll look into all suggestions. We are a family of three, but a kitchenette idea is always great especially when you have a child.
It should be fun and we are looking forward to being somewhere new and seeing family we don't usually see.
Thank you!

It can take upwards of an hour and a half to two hours to travel from Glendale to the beach or vice versa in the middle of August because of traffic (everyone wants to be at the beach in August!). If you're planning to do a lot with you relatives who live in Glendale, I wouldn't recommend staying at the beach. If you're only going to see them a couple of times though, the beach is a great place to be. It's about 20 degrees cooler than Glendale, on average. Glendale can reach into the 100s in August. A dry heat, as Marcia said.

There's only one good hotel in Glendale, and I wouldn't recommend it. You may want to look at hotels in Pasadena -- or Universal City. I don't know of any hotels that have themed rooms. Good luck!

You want to be fairly close to the beach which is typical 20 degrees F cooler than the valley or downtown. Santa Monica is the first choice, venice or Marina del Rey 2nd.

I live inland about 5 miles in Culver City Home of Sony studios. It is now a quite trendy town ( restaurants, wine bars, music etc.). The Culver hotel is a "historic" hotel. Its where the Munchkins stayed during the filming of the wizard of OZ which was filmed at MGM (now sony). I suppose that is sort of a theme (other movies filmed at MGM- Singing in the rain,Gone with the Wind etc.)

Thanks everyone. My daughter is 9, hence the excitement over a room decorated like a castle or a disco! I have explained that we will stay somewhere like that another time (mummy speak for that hazy distant never-never time...)
I think for the short time we will be in LA somewhere near the studios is looking good, that is our main activity while we are there and the rellies are coming with us, so all good.I remember visiting Venice Beach years ago, we didn't like it at all, maybe it is different now. The thing that stands out in my misty memories also, is walking along the (I think) Santa Monica pier and seeing cars parked at the end! Very different to Australian piers! And a fortune teller read our palms, she said we would cross water, we were on a pier, so I guess she had 100% chance of getting this correct!
