Have you been to San Cristobal de las Casas?

I'd like to know the best way to get there, as well transportation in the area, and what you found interesting.

Thanks!
Charity

Hi Charity,

San Cristobal de las Casas is one of the most beautiful spots in Mexico. I have traveled to many parts of Mexico and it remains in my heart for its simplicity, warmth, authenticity and gorgeous setting.

We took a bus from Palenque, which is a must see. It was an arduous ride; rather scary. The bus driver stopped at one point to let a Mexican traveler hop off to vomit! The bus itself was first class and clean, and of course affordable.

While there we didn't have a car, we mostly spent time in SCC and did a tour or two with a local guy in a van. We enjoyed our stay so much we kept extending it out.

This was quite a while ago, 1994 I think. But if you love Mexico already, love the people, you will indeed fall in love with San C. de las Casas.

Thanks, Chachalaca.

I've done more research. We will spend one week in January in Oaxaca. I've decided we will then fly nonstop from Oaxaca to Tuxla Guitterez and immediately take a bus to San Cristobal. Spend a few days there exploring surrounding Mayan villages and ruins. Then go down to Palenque for two days. Fly back to the US from Villahermosa.

We may use the services of MEC (Maya Exploration Center) based in Austin, Texas, for lectures and tour guidance to site around San Cristobal and at Palenque. I would have liked to use them for the whole trip, but it would have cost too much.

When are you going back to San Cristobal?
