Actually this presents a nice change for folks. Most do go up through Merced, Mariposa on 140. Now you can fly into Fresno and go up through coarsgold etc passing through some of the big trees and entering the park at it's top. There is nothing like coming out of the tunnel and getting that first view of 1/2 dome.
If you come in from the north you are taking the old big oak flat road and see some the early gold camps, mt. hamlets that usually get bypassed. so its not all bad..........
My husband and I visited Yosemite recently. The falls are spectacular right now because of the large snowfall. We live 90 miles from the park and this is the most water we've seen there.
Be prepared to get wet if you walk up to the falls....it's very misty. Many hikers are wearing plastic garbage bags or inexpensive ponchos.
The dogwoods are blooming and they are so lovely.
If a visit in the near future is not possible, plan a visit in October when the fall color is magnificient.
