Let me preface by saying I have the WORST luck with hotels. I have stayed in some real dives in El Paso in the past.

I want something with SW grace and charm. I'd prefer something in the $150 range. Does anybody have any recommendations.

I have not stayed in El Paso but we did look at doing a trip in the past to Big Bend and El Paso was one of our options of flying into from the PNW. It seemed to be - your choice of chains. I have been working with a local internet company that is aggregates hotel reviews - Raveable. I like how it brings all the review together. You may want to use it to look at user reviews. (No payment - but I am a travel maven on the site)

Camino Real is a grand old hotel so far as the lobby and architecture goes. Now, you will have to read the reviews yourself to see if it is what you want. I had a room that was on the old side, although it was very spacious, but I suspect they have refurbished rooms too. But it's definitely not a dive.

I also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express downtown, and that's not a dive either. It was more modern, and I found it a very pleasant place.

Personally, I found I had an amazing connection to El Paso, which I know is probably an eccentricity on my part, but I am very fond of it, based on my three nights there.

Try the Marriott; it is the best of the bunch. At least that is what everyone here in rural NM says when they go to "the Big City" for a night before they catch a flight.

Do not stay at the Wydham...looks nice on the web but is not.
