Air travelers may now carry liquids, gels and aerosols in their carry-on bag when going through security checkpoints.
The following rules apply to all liquids, gels, and aerosols carried through security checkpoints.
- All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller. - All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. - Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

And that includes peanut butter! Without thinking, we brought our usual large plastic jar of peanut butter on our November trip this past fall, and it was confiscated at security, even though it was brand new with the seal intact.
We also were surprised that on our return from France, the small bottles of wine that we'd been given on the plane were taken away at Seattle, because they re-screen passengers coming from abroad before putting them on domestic flights!
We have watched many people lose their toiletries because they bring the full-size bottle with only a little product in it. It's the size of the container, not the amount of liquid/gel/paste that they object to.
(You could mix your shampoo with my peanut butter and wine and make a bomb!)

Thank you, I just was not sure about the amount of liquid we could bring. I thought it was only 3 ounces total....eeeek how am I going to manage that. This is much better news. THis I can handle.

And corn relish. I had my factory-sealed jar confiscated last week when flying home from the East Coast. I always obediently follow the 3 oz. container/1 quart bag rule, but it had never even occurred to me that corn relish was either liquid or gel. It's one of my favorites from an East Coast childhood that I can't find here in California, so I've either got to learn to live without it or start checking my bag! Or--heaven forbid--actually go into the kitchen and make it myself.

When they tell you you can't take your bottle of libation on the plane, don't do what a man in Dresden, Germany, did.
When told by security at the Nuremberg airport that he would either have to empty his 2-pint flask of vodka or pay extra to check his bag, he chugged the vodka, collapsed and had to be hospitalized!

Carole, if you mean TJ's corn and chile salsa, thanks--I've got that and like it, but it's not the same as the Pennsylvania Dutch style relish of my childhood. How dare TSA interfere with my search for comfort food? (Is this off-topic, or what?)

I flew in Jan and had taken in my carry on...home made blackberry preserves (Greg grows the berries, i make the jam ). TSA took all of it. My parents were so mad when i got to St. Louis....sans the preserves
I also had the wrong size ziploc and they no longer have them for you...so i put my stuff in checked bags....and someone helped themselves to my lotion and lip balm
And i just discovered the TJ's corn salsa...Very good!
