It is interesting that you posted this just as my Armchair Traveller book club has selected God's Middle Finger: Into the Lawless Heart of the Sierra Madre" by Richard Grant as our May book.

The link takes you to the description on BN.com. Be sure to watch the author's video clip. Chilling.

Although frightening, especially if your destination is a border-town near Tijuana, the Dept. of State does indicate that the focus is drug-related and that many Americans cross the border daily without incident.

But one can make a similar argument right here at home. Chicago...a weekend of 32 shootings, 2 stabbings and 2 deaths - and 88 murders in the month of March alone.

I truly loved our time in Mexico. It is one of my favorite destinations but after 2 bad experiences in 2 years it no longer is on my travel list.

2 years ago we went to Rocky Point and got caught in some kind of a anti-government demonstration that held all the tourists hostage in town - you couldn't get out they had all the roads blocked. Then this fall I had acid thrown on me in Nogales. Just a random act of violence against Norte americanas.

So like so much of our government's actions this falls into the too little too late.
