Will be driving from Sandpoint Idaho into canada in July. Just want to experience some Canadian outdoors for a week or so. Any suggestions on best route or best places to go to?

Hi, kelmart,
There are some gorgeous areas of Alberta and B.C. that run from the Canada-US border north as far as you can drive! Do you know which border crossing point you'll use? There are 2 points of entry that I know of from Idaho into B.C....Rykerts and Kingsgate.

You might come into the province of B.C. along Hwy. 95, then you can drive through Cranbrook and Kimberley until you reach the Banff-Jasper highway, heading north into the heart of the Rockies.

That's a stunning area of the country, loaded with glacial areas, glacier-fed lakes and valleys hugging close to the mountains. I've been through that area many times, as we live just north-west of Jasper. There are some fantastic camping areas, hotels and resorts, restaurants, shopping...and the prettiest scenery around.

If you can let me know what you like to do and where you are comfortable staying, that would help me to know what to suggest.

Ask anything you like, I'll be happy to help!

If you've never been to Banff or Jasper or driven the Icefields Parkway, that's the logical place to go. It might be the most spectacular place in North America and some say the Canadian Rockies are the most beautiful mountains in the world. Make reservations well in advance though! That is prime season for a very popular location.

There's certainly worthwhile spots in southern BC too but if you hadn't done the above, that would be my first pick.
