Good morning all from Vancouver! This town is on pins and needles as we are little more than 1 hour away from the final results.

I am at home watching the telly, but my girls are right in the hub of the action at the town square in Whistler, wish I was there with them.

Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Wow, Salzburg was just eliminated! Now the pressure is on, 1 more vote to go, it's either us or Korea!

Yippee, we won! It was extremely close, rumor has it that only 3 votes separated us from Korea, we are very very lucky indeed!

Now to get on the volunteer list!

Congratulations Vancouver. Seattle has been talking a lot about this also because there will be increased tourism in our area also. We are only 125 miles south of Vancouver.

Seattle has had several debates about applying for the Olympics. Bob Walsh who brought the Goodwill Games to Seattle in 1990 has long advocated trying to host the games. But the city (both government and people) are against it.

But it will be cool to have them close by. Congratulations again.

Thanks! Yes winter, let's hope we have one that year, hopefully we'll get big dumps of snow in 2010 otherwise we could be in big trouble!
One of my daughter's just returned home from the festivites at Whistler and she said the feeling at the square was extremely exciting. I'm sure she'll remember that for years to come.

YAY, Liz!
I'll bet everyone is very excited! Good luck with getting on the volunteer list - I'm sure being directly involved in the Olympics will be a great experience.

Congratulations, Liz! I hear it's one of the most beautiful places in North America. And it means New York probably won't get the summer games. Yay! We're just too overstimulated as it is. Another time.

Yes Joanna, Whistler is quite breath taking, and Vancouver's not too shabby either. Although we could do with a little more of your great city's theatre!

The Olympics could prove to be extra exciting for us, as we know a few ski racing Olympic hopefuls! Keeping our fingers crossed for these young kids!

I was so thrilled to hear that Vancouver/Whistler won the bid! We LOVE Whistler and will be there in two weeks for a few days. I hope the locals will still be celebrating. Of course, Vancouver is our most favorite city and we go there 3 to 4 times a year. The people are great and the night life is fun with people crowding Robson street late into the night. Unlike our beautiful Seattle where the sidewalks seem to roll up after work hours and everyone leaves the city. Anyway, it's great that more folks will get to know the beauty of B.C. and look forward to all the new venues that will be built for the Olympics. We definitely plan on being there!
