Hmm. Approaching Monument Valley? Or on that backroad between Cisco and Moab? It looks so familiar to me, but I'm just not sure. I'm pretty sure it's either in Arizona, Utah, or Colorado, unless that's Shiprock, then New Mexico. I guess I really don't know. Roll Eyes

I think the photo I have below is a close up to some of the rock formations in your photo. The photo was taken on our drive from the North Rim Grand Canyon to Arches National Park, I don't have specific labeling for it, but my guess is Hwy 163? after entering Utah? It could be approaching Monument Valley. Ah, pretty scene for sure.

Well, since I'd really only narrowed it down to somewhere in four (large) states, I give up! Big Grin

Well done Chris, Castle valley it is... I know that you have travelled many of the routes that I have and would most likely get the location even though its similar to many places.
The road in the pic is within Castle valley which is, far as I know, the only paved road in and back out again. The day we drove in we didnt see a soul, as there is a local community we got the feeling that we shouldnt really be there..very odd! (the hills have eyes Uh-uh No!)

Hah! What's the prize? Garlic Man

To tell the truth, this really was a guess, based on your response to my earlier guesses. I remember stopping at the turnoff from 128, but we never did ride in to Castle Valley, so I didn't realize there was a community back there.

Candi.. scenic highway 128 gets you there. This stretch of road is worth the trip on its own. Not far from and to the north of Moab.

We were hoping to get back in the region in September but it looks as though the exchange rate is going to beat us. I live in hope!
