Hello everybody!

We (family of 4 with 2 girls 4&3 yo) are going to spend our Christmas holidays in Florida (North Palm Beach) and I am start panicking about what to pack! so here I am asking for some good advise from my fellow STravellers!

I know that is warm over there and we have to bring our swimsuits, but do I need a raincoat (?) or a jacket for the evenings?
It's so cold here that I still cannot imagine myself on a beach!

Thank you very much for your inputs!

Corinna

P.S. I know for sure that I will bring an extra empty suitcase - the exchange rate is so good that I will want to do a lot of shopping!

Hi,

The weather is totally unpredictable, of course. Usually it does rain once or twice in South Fla. during Christmas. Sometime it's hot but some time you would need a sweater. If you are right on the beach it can be breezy at night

Sorry for a less than eimple answer but it's, well, the weather.

Hope yours will be beautiful...

Jan,

Thank you very much for the quick reply!
It really helps me.

I will be 2/3 miles from the beach and I hope it won't be too breezy at night. By the way I will leave from Milan wearing a pashmina and a light wool pullover so I guess I will be fine in case the temperature falls under 50F. (but I hope not!)

Grazie di nuovo!

In the times I've been in Florida during winter months, the weather has ranged from lovely, sunny and warm Thumbs Up to a couple of days so cool and rainy that I was wearing turtlenecks and sweatshirts. Frown

So, bring at least one t-neck; if you need the sweatshirt, you can surely find a nice one as a souvenir.

Under 50--almost never.
Under 60-- once in a while
under 70-- frequently
under 80--usually
over 80--once in a while, too!

Marian and Jan - Thank you!

I am glad to hear Florida is really the 'Sunshine State'! Smile

Corrina,
Pack shorts, crops and short sleeve shirts, throw in a pair of long pants or jeans (for those just in case a cold/cool front comes in for a couple of days times). A very light jacket or long sleeve shirt for layering in restaurants, they are all too cold. You will bless me for this advice. Your pashmina should be perfect for evenings.

Have a wonderful holiday,
Cracker

Thank you Cracker for the suggestion!
I always forget about the air conditioning.

Corinna,

I cover the Palm Beach area as part of my job and I can tell you that during the day, short sleeve shirts, shorts will be fine. Average temp in West Palm is about 75 during the day at this time of year but we do see 80's easily.

For the evening, as we are now done with the rainy season, the humidity is lower so you'd want something for the cooler evenings where you'll be in the lower 60's or upper 50's if we have a cold front move through.

You'll enjoy the weather and it's for this time of year that we live in Florida!!!

However, the water will be cool (cold to us).

Not sure how long you are staying but if you want to shop and will have a car, you are about 45 minutes drive from Sawgrass Mills which is HUGE outlet mall on the West side of Fort Lauderdale. I can give you instructions on how to get there from North Palm but it will take you about 45 minutes one way to get there.

If you want high end shopping, you have The Gardens Mall right in West Palm on Palm Beach Gardens Boulevard between I-95 and US 1.

Have fun!!!

I AM BACK!
and I would like to say thank you again to you guys for your help.

Our vacation was simply perfect - we had plenty of sunny warm days (75 was the average) but we also experienced the cold weather (around 50 - unbelievable but true!) and we were prepared in both occasions! Wink
Anyway, I am still jetlegged but I am pretty sure my body will find some difficulties in adapting itself again - It's so grey here in Milan that I want to cry! Frown
