We are going to the Palenque area and Oaxaca to explore the ruins and dip into other interests: food, textiles, archeoastronomy.

Maya Exploration Center has a few tours to help finance the work they do in mapping the ruins uncovered in Palenque. Ed Barnhart is Director.

Do you know anything about them?

Hi Charity -
Sounds like you're planning a wonderful Mexico trip!

A search of the Internet didn't bring up any 'reviews' of the Maya Exploration Center, but I thought this article was interesting.

You might try posting your question on the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree Mexico travel forum. It seems to be fairly active.

Good luck with your planning!

Colleen,

Thanks so much for this article! It gives the credentials to the Maya Exploration Center that I was looking for. Ed Barnhart, director of the center, is mentioned in the article as a 2001 graduate of Univ of Texas' Mesoamerica Center doctoral program.

Other Slow Travelers might also be interested in this article from the Austin, Tx, Chronicle Living Maya .
