This normally isnt my kind of vacation, but my sister and her husband rented a 2 bedroom condo to go diving. Friends cancelled on them at the last minute and asked my 75 year old mom if she wanted to go, So I decided to accompany my mom so she could go.

We stayed about a mile north of town, so there were no beaches to wander, like the south has, but with our spectacular place on the water made up for that. Not a lot to do if you are not a diver except to go to the trinket shops along with the 1000s other coming off the cruise ships every day or daily excursions. It would have been nice if we could have hired a private group to snorkle. There were 5-7 huge ships in every day. Luckily most of them left by sundown and you could walk the town with some quiet. We had great meals, most on the expensive side since they were close to town, but one Mexican restaurant we went to twice that was about 10 blocks off the main drag was delicious and very reasonable.

We rode the ferry over to Playa Del Carmen, what a zoo too. I used to like these types of vacations where the action is and stores but now I crave quiet for being able to get away and wander from the crowds. We rented car to the Tulum ruins. They were nice but I enjoyed the ones in Belize more. We stopped at a beach club right outside the ruins and had a nice lunch and I didnt think the water could get any prettier than Cozumel but Tulums waters were stunning blue/green with baby powder fine sand. Could have sat there all day enjoying that.
