Ack, and the obnoxious constant scrolling across the top!

Rt. 20 goes right through my hometown. In fact, my parents now live in a loft on Main Street - Rt. 20. Still it doesn't have quite the mystique of Route 66, the Mother Road.

You can stop the music from playing. The web site will be updated soon hopefully we can correct some of these things. The whole point of the site was to promote this road since it was not as famous as route 66. There is a new paper called the route 20 pulse that we hope will help in this endeavor.http://www.route20pulse.com/

Whew! The music woke my cat up an hour before it is time for him to start begging for dinner an hour early! I found the button but too late!

It looks like a nice site. I didn't know where Highway 20 was. It's too far removed for me to consider anything but looking at the site.

Cool, I grew up taking Route 20 on a regular basis around Buffalo. Actually, you show my hometown of Fredonia, NY on the Road Trip USA map. How fun!

Kevin Costner Visits Field Of Dreams On Us-20

+ RoadDog Today, 09:09 AM Post #1

Sunday Driver

" In his first appearance back at the site where his movie Field of
Dreams was filmed, Kevin Costner hung out with fans, ran bases, and
gave a 75 minute performance with his band. This took place August
11th and was at Dyersville, Iowa, right by US-20. This was also the
first time the movie was actually screened at the site according to
an article by Mark Caro in the Chicago Tribune of August 14 in an
article titled "Recurring 'Dreams.'"

At least 5000 fans showed up and several hundred were turned away
when the local fire department declared the place at capacity.
Evidently, the land is owned by two families who don't get along too
well. This event took place at what is called Left & Center Field of
Dreams. The right field, infield, and area by the white farmhouse is
owned by another family and was off limits. Both have gift shops.

It is too bad these two families can't just get along. I hope to
visit the site this week as we'll be driving US-20 to Galena, Il.,
one beautiful drive.

The movie was screened by the Rolling Roadshow, which this August is
visiting ten movie sites and showing the movie for free. Upcoming
ones are the 24th- Poseidon Adventure in Long Beach, Ca., and 26th-
Escape from Alcatraz in San Francisco, Ca. You can find out more at
www.netflix.com/roadshow "

Wow, great site! I live 10 miles from where US 20 ends at the Pacific Ocean in Newport, OR. Rte 20 is a beautiful drive from Newport to the Willamette Valley, but I had no idea it just kept on going.

This is an update:Route 20 Association of NY planning a 100-mile yard sale for 2007

The Route 20 Association of NY is in the planning stages for a 100-mile yard sale for 2007, to be held along US Route 20 from Albany to Lafayette. Though a date had not yet been established, tentative plans are to hold the event in conjunction with the Right Coast Car Association Car Cruise along the same route from July 20-22. Vintage car clubs participating in this free event will be traveling east from Buffalo and west from Albany along Route 20, with their destination being the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse to coincide with the Syracuse Nationals. High traffic volume is expected, and a roadside yard sale should be a great success for all those who participate. For more information on this planned event, please visit http://www.artmakers.com/20. The Route 20 Association of NY would appreciate your feedback. Information on the Route 20 car cruise can be found at www.usroute20.com or http://www.artmakers.com/cruise.

Ah heck,
Thought you were talking about I20 - which is in spitting distance (well, if you are a tall camel) and was going to invite anyone traveling to stop by for a Brahman ride!

Big U.S. 20 fan here.

U.S. 20 was the main street in my upstate N.Y. hometown, and when returning from New Hampshire, I always drive it in favor of the Thruway.

I'm soon to complete the U.S. 20 western leg and would like some advice.

I'd especially like to know about Oregon.

My main concern is going over the Cascades.

How great is the snow potential for late April?

And how's the scenery in eastern Oregon?

I can't wait to roll into Newport and see the Pacific for the first time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a grand trip, Rogers. First, the potential for snow on the roads in late April is very small. Expect rain, though.

Check out www.oregontravel.com for specifics, but here is a thumbnail sketch. Oregon is a study in contrasts, with three main climate zones from East to West. Eastern Oregon is high desert with wide open spaces and rugged mountains, typically sunny days and frigid nights. (Those wide open spaces are so big and empty that driving can get a bit boring - just imagine doing it in a covered wagon.) Rte 20 goes through Bend, one of the state's fastest-growing towns, then past the Cascade range ski resorts into the center of the Willamette valley. Then Rte 20 goes over the Coast Mountain range from Corvallis to the rainy, temperate coastal region. In April, temperatures should be in the hihg 50's - low 60's. Enjoy the vibrant green forest and watch for impromptu waterfalls and rushing streams during the 2 hour drive west to Newport. If you are in Newport on the first Saturday in May, you will find the town celebrating the 51st annual Loyalty Day with a parade, carnival, seafood festival and barbershop concert. Year-round highlights include the dual lighthouses (www.yaquinalights.org), the Aquarium and the Rogue Ale Brewery (www.discovernewport.com).
Have a great trip!
Ellen

I am planning a trip on Route 20 this summer. It will be a Military vehicle convoy of 7 Vehicles of WWII to Vietnam Era. We will leave Albany NY on July 31 and Arrive Newport, Oregon on August 14. We hope to touch our front wheels in the Pacific Ocean. We will then drive to Portland Oregon to attend the National Military Vehicle Preservation Association Convention on August 15. We will then Leave Oregon via US Route 30 for our trip homeward. We expect to return to Albany on Sept 1 2008. I would like to hear from those along the way who might allow us to Bivouac for the night in a safe place. we hope to drive 250 miles per day. We are pretty much self contained, just looking for a place to park and visit.
