Am thinking of a day trip to Viterbo from Rome; what is there to see/do? Is it just a suburb of Rome?

(spelling corrected by Amy)

If you search the Board, you'll find many threads discussing Viterbo. You can also get info at Viterbo Online and Elegent Etruria.

Viterbo is definitely a worthwhile destination...it is definitely not a suburb of Rome.

There is a train (I believe it leaves from the Piazzale Flaminio that goes there through the middle of northern Lazio.

Viterbo is somewhat stern, very medieval city.....there is also a large thermal bath on the edge of town.

Mary Jane Cryan of Elegant Etruria, who frequents this board, can give you lots more specific information.
